Tests, Bangladesh to play only short-form cricket in Pakistan

NEW DELHI: Pakistan and Bangladesh are heading for yet another showdown, this time over cricket. Bangladesh has refused to play test cricket on Pakistan soil, ostensibly for security reasons, and has agreed to only play T20s, where players need to visit only for a short duration, people familiar with the development told ET from Dhaka.

Bangladesh has suggested that test matches be played in a neutral venue. “We only want to play T20s in Pakistan and tests in a neutral venue. There could be threats to the Bangladesh team from terror groups,” a Bangladesh government official told ET. Bangladesh are expected to play three Twenty20 Internationals in Lahore Pakistan has, however, threatened to take the matter to the International Cricket Council, one of the sources told ET. Test cricket returned to Pakistan after Sri Lanka took part in a two-test series earlier this month. Rawalpindi and Karachi hosted Pakistan’s first tests on home soil since a terror attack on Sri Lanka’s team bus in Lahore in 2009.Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to celebrate the birth centenary of 'Bongobondhu' Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of Bangladesh, by hosting two T20 matches in March 2020 between the Asia XI and the World XI and it is unlikely that Pakistani players will be included in the Asia XI to play alongside Indians .
